About charging port repair
Charging problems usually show up gradually. The cable starts needing a particular angle to hold, then it only works if you press it in, then it stops connecting at all. Because the port takes a physical push every single day, it’s one of the most common wear points on any phone.
The first thing we check is whether the port actually needs replacing. Pocket lint compacts into the bottom of the connector over months and stops the cable seating fully — it looks identical to a failed port from the outside, and it needs no parts at all. We inspect before we quote, and if that’s all it is we’ll tell you.
Where the port is genuinely worn we replace the assembly and test charging, data transfer and accessory detection before your device goes back to you. Post it to us from anywhere in the UK, or drop it in at our Harlow workshop in Essex.
Common questions
The things customers usually ask before booking a charging port repair.
How do I know it’s the port and not the cable or plug?
Try a different cable and a different plug first — it costs nothing and it rules out the two most common causes. If the phone charges normally with other kit, the problem was never the phone. If it still needs a particular angle, cuts in and out when you move it, or will not connect at all regardless of cable, the port is the likely culprit.
Could it just be dirt in the port?
Very often, yes. Pocket lint compacts into the bottom of the connector over months and stops the cable seating fully — from the outside it is indistinguishable from a failed port. We inspect before we quote, and if a clean is all it needs we will tell you rather than fit a part you did not need.
My phone charges by cable but not on a wireless pad. Is that this repair?
No — that points at the wireless charging coil rather than the port, and it is a separate job. The coil sits under the rear panel, so it is unrelated to the connector at the bottom of the phone. Get in touch and we will quote you for the right repair.
Why do Samsung and Pixel cost more than iPhone?
Access, mainly. Charging port repairs start at £54.99 on iPhone, £89.99 on Samsung Galaxy and £94.99 on Google Pixel. On some designs the port is a separate flex that comes out readily; on others it is soldered to the board or sits behind more disassembly. The price reflects the work the design demands.
Do you repair iPad charging ports?
Not at present. Our iPad service currently covers screens only. If you have an iPad with a charging fault, get in touch and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
Will I lose my data?
No. A charging port repair does not touch your storage. We do recommend backing up before sending any device to any repairer, and in this case there is a practical reason to do it sooner rather than later — a phone that will not hold a charge gets harder to back up as the battery drains.
