iPad repairs, explained
Tablets differ from phones in ways that affect what a repair costs.
Why do some iPad screens cost far more than others?
It comes down to whether the display is laminated. On older standard iPads — the 7th, 8th and 9th generations — the glass and the display are separate layers, so a cracked front doesn’t always mean replacing both. On the Air, Pro and newer models the two are bonded into a single unit, so any crack means the whole assembly. That’s why an iPad Air screen is £189.99 while a 9th generation is £99.99.
Black or white screen — how do I know which I need?
This applies to the 7th, 8th and 9th generations. Look at the border around the display when the iPad is switched off: white frame means White, black frame means Black. It isn’t the same as the colour of the back — a silver iPad usually has a white bezel, a space grey one usually has black.
Do you repair iPad batteries?
Yes, across the range, though they aren’t priced online. iPad batteries are glued in and the tablet has to come apart carefully, so it takes considerably longer than a phone battery. Get in touch and we’ll quote you.
My iPad screen is cracked but still works. Can I leave it?
You can, but we’d suggest not leaving it long. There’s far more glass on a tablet than a phone, and once cracked, shards can lift and cut fingers — worth thinking about if children use it. Tablets also flex slightly in normal use, so cracks tend to spread.
Is a large iPad safe to post?
Yes. We send proper tracked packaging both ways with transit insurance up to £750, included in the price. Large tablets need more than a reused box, which is why we supply it rather than leaving it to you.
Can I send several iPads at once?
Yes, and it’s easier for everyone. If you’ve got a few family or school devices to fix, get in touch with what’s wrong with each and we’ll sort out postage and pricing in one go.
Can I drop my iPad in instead of posting it?
Yes. We offer drop-in repairs at our Harlow, Essex workshop by appointment. Book online first and we’ll have the part ready when you arrive.
